Cricket is always said to be a fight between ball and cricket bat. In the light of such reality, the importance of bowling can be well understood. In earlier eras, cricket was always a fair match between ball and bat but in modern times, the interest has slightly changed.

The spectators love to see huge runs and for that purpose, most often than not cricket pitches are made flat so that batsmen can plunder runs. From that point of view, the importance of bowling has increased even more. Now bowlers can not afford to make even a slight mistake in line and length. The popularity of shorter version of the game has resulted in more runs being scored and bowlers being plundered all over the park. Compare to a batsman, a bowler’s life span is always considered shorter.

The busy national and international schedule coupled with non-stop cricket all over the world has often resulted in cricket bowlers getting injured and sitting on sidelines. But that’s the way this game has evolved. A bowler’s role is very crucial in restricting the opposition batsmen to a minimum total and creating opportunities for his team.

The first and foremost aim of any bowler is to take wickets at regular intervals and secondly to contain the flow of the runs.

Cricket bowling coaching aims to develop these two basic qualities in any bowler. The job of a bowler is very tiresome as he also has to spend quite a lot of time in the fielding unlike a batsman who can sit in the comforts of dressing room once he is out.

A good bowler needs to have adequate knowledge of the proper grip, smooth run-up and ability to deliver well balanced deliveries one after another. He must be able to use his height and body to the optimum. Full follow through and consistency is other important criteria for any bowler.

Technically a spin bowler and a fast one are quite different from each other. The basic elements focused upon in bowling coaching process are, run-up action, grip, swing, spin, bowling action and adjusting to the mood of the game. Bowling coaching plays a vital role in shaping bowlers mindset as per the format of the game. Different types of cricket skills are taught to these bowlers. He also needs to bring variety in his bowling to excel in the long run.
