Watch any One Day International taking place in any part of India and you will always find people flocking all over from the city to get a glimpse of batting superstars. Such is the reputation of the game that many people actually consider cricket as the national game of India.

This game has a wide reach amongst people of all class, age, and religions. Cricket unifies the whole of India in an unprecedented way. India’s emergence as a cricketing powerhouse has also resulted in several new business opportunities. India contributes more than half of revenue generated by cricket playing nations. The arrival of Twnty-20 format of the game has only helped the fire. Tournaments organized by IPL and ICL always witness a packed stadium. With the passage of time, this gentleman’s game has only become more glamorous. India was not a cricket powerhouse in earlier time.
India is one of the only 10 nations that have been accorded the status of Test playing nations. Indian cricket witnessed a huge turnaround after winning the 1983 world cup. Led by legendary Kapil Dev India never looked back since then. The popularity soared and country witnessed better cricket from the team after that historical event.
India also organized world cup in 1996. Another major milestone achieved by India was in the year 2007 when under the leadership of MS Dhoni, India won the inaugural Twnety20 World cup. Currently Indian team is on song by creating several cricket records and is backed up by emergence of young bloods in the team. Truly, Indian cricket has traveled a long way.
